Building a Following

I’ve never thought of myself as an interesting person. Which is quite humorous because I send out an inspirational message to a following of over five hundred people, and the feedback is incredible.

It started as an “On This Day in History” post, where I would find something humorous that happened in history and explain it from that point of view. History is full of some bleak things, so finding something humorous, even if it came from a parody magazine publication, wasn’t always the easiest. So, I have had some experience in finding a topic and typing up a short message.

I started this blog because an author needs a following. (As much as I would have liked it, my five hundred other followers were off-limits.) I have always been much better at writing fiction, in my humble opinion, than just coming up with something that others might want to read (my weekly inspirational message included.) Yet, I find readers liking what I’ve written. I hope they can pick up on the ironic take on my journey to finding a market for my book.

I have had to make several leaps of faith. Some that panned out, and others that wanted more from me than I was able to give. In saying that, I would like to make a shout-out to Ogungbade. I made a leap of faith in trusting Ogungbade to help me market my book, and she has been like a rock.

This week, I have seen my Kindle Unlimited pages increase, and I am looking forward to a time when my Amazon royalties might be more than what I have paid to see this book come to fruition. In the meantime, I will take the advice that one writer shared with me. It’s not poetic or even profound, but it is truth. So friends, “keep writing,” and I will do the same.
