For the past month, marketing my book has involved developing an online presence on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. I now have over three hundred followers on Meta, and over a thousand on TikTok, and not a one of those has equated to a single sale of my book.
Would I have done better to equip several fifteen to twenty year olds with a copy and had them do what my daughter did? Somewhere out there is the perfect market for my book, I just have to figure out how to access it.
With today’s access to the internet and social media, finding the perfect market shouldn’t be impossible, but… we are overrun with so much information, we dismiss what we deem irrelevant. I can only assume by the information that I am receiving that The Fledgling is being relegated to the irrelevant pile.
I wish I could wave a magic wand and find out why it is being treated to irrelevant. Is it because the only people seeing my marketing are not book lovers? Are they not fans of Young Adult fiction? Are they too caught up in the steamy romances to give a slow burn a chance? Are all the people following me on social media even real people? These are questions that I ask myself all the time.
Magic wands don’t exist except in the pages of Fantasy Books, which is what makes them a great escape. Or it would if you are a book lover, and not so caught up in steamy romance that you can’t take a break and read something different. I’m not trying to imply my book has magic wands, it doesn’t. What I am trying to say is that there are great books out there for people to read. This is a call to all book lovers where ever you are, take a break and read something great.
